Our responsibility

Demand for seafood is growing steadily and already exceeds what is available in the oceans. In view of this, we are working hard to supplement our range with farmed fish, where quality and growing conditions permit.

Lobster Seafood is fishing for the future - we have a responsibility to future generations that requires us to work daily to actively protect ocean stocks.

Caring for the oceans, fish and shellfish

Lobster Seafood import seafood products from many of the world´s oceans and lakes. Accountability and responsiveness are key words in our daily work with fish, shellfish and their habitats.

Our ongoing work and approach are made possible by well-informed, experienced management, and skilled and dedicated employees. We all have a great deal of respect for fisheries and the marine enviroment. See our sustainability rapport. pdf

To ensure that our impact on the environment is kept to a minimum, we actively work with businesses whose goal is to implement environmental labelling and certification programmes to contribute to a healthier ocean. We maintain a close dialogue with industry bodies such as the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council), WWF (World Wide Fund), Naturland, and others.

Keeping track of supplies and caring for the environment

We at Lobster are certified by Kiwa Sverige AB for Chain of Custody, which means that all our operations are traceable as far as is practical in the value chain.

Computer logistics give us control over each pallet and each package. We can see what kind of customer recieved a particular product, as well as the date and time. We can also trace the product back in time, e.g. a certain lot can be traced back to the port where the catch was landed. Traceability is one of the seven enduring pillars of our environmental work.

Wherever our produce is located, we work hard to ensure efficiency in our logistics so that the distance from the ocean to the customer is minimised in terms of time and space. This type of optimisation project has been run by infuential actors in Swedish supermarkets and major processing companies such as Marine Harvest.

All packaging used is recyclable, and the crates, pallets and packaging Lobster uses are ergonomically designed.

Presence

A close dialogue and an on-site presence mean that the products are processed according to specifications and that legislation, professional standards, and managment and control system are complied with. We encorage our suppliers to continuously make improvements that benefit the marine ecosystem.

We annually visit leading suppliers and processing plants around the world. Through our office in Shanghai, China, we are able to build close relationships with our partners in Asia, which means that we have control of the entire production chain, from catching the fish to shipping the packed boxes from Asia.

We have clear specifications regarding glazing, and we frequently visit plants. We also have our own team of experts in certain products, such as breaded products and crayfish.

Seal of approval

Public authorities and various fishing organisations in Sweden (such as Fiskeriverket, Svensk Fisk and Djupfrysningsbyrån) are our natural partners. Also part of our network are organisations such as MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) and KRAV, an important and well-known organisation in the organic market in Sweden!

MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) is a non-profit, global organisation that makes a key contribution to solving the global problem of overfishing. It is supported by charities and businesses around the world. MSC rewards responsible fishing with a clear ecolabel. The label guarantees that the product comes from well-managed fisheries and that it has not contributed to overfishing. Read more at http://www.msc.org/

Seafood carrying ASC-labeling (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) comes from farms that have been independently certified in accordance with ASC´s standard to include respecting the environment and comply with guidelines on food additives and social conditions. Read more at www.asc-aqua.org

KRAV is a control body of organic products. Its criteria cover farming and production. Lobster Seafood is an authorised retailer of food products marked with KRAV ecolabel.  We also work closely with KRAV-certified producers. Read more at www.Krav.se

Europalövet is the EU label for organic products and may be used if the food contains at least 95 percent organically produced ingredients. The organic label may only be used on products approved by a control body; in Sweden, KRAV is the approved body. As of 1 July 2010, using the new organic logo on pre-packed food products is compulsory within the EU.

Naturland shows that the product complies with the latest EU regulations and requirements for organic production. The farming method takes particular account of the local environment, and organically certified feed is used. Read more at  www.naturland.de

Närfiskat is a label that guarnatees that the product is caught by Swedish fishing boats within the approved quotas and are traceable along the chain, from the fishing boats to fish traders. This means that all parts of the production chain must be members of Närfiskat - fishing boats, wholesale, retail/restaurant - if the product is to be sold as a Närfiskat product. Read more at www.narfiskat.se

EU-seal for Kalixi roe. Certified whitefish roe from Kalix lives up to the exacting requirements on origin (that it is fished in the specified geographical area). Licensed roe producers who have recieved the seal for their Kalix roe have received the EU´s Protected Designation of Origin label, with the roe having the same status as products such as Parma ham  and Parmesan cheese.
